We’re almost one week into the new year, and if you’re like most Americans, then you hit the ground running with your resolutions last Tuesday. Perhaps you have a goal to lose weight and gain muscle, or maybe you’ve decided to speak to one of our physicians about testosterone replacement therapy this year. No matter what your goals may be, writing them down is significantly easier than achieving them. In today’s post, we’ll provide you with a few simple tips that can help you keep your New Year’s resolutions long past February.
Tips for Resolution Success
No matter what you’re trying to change or accomplish, it’s important to start with small steps. For instance, while you might have your sights set on losing 50 pounds before next year, you’ll have a much higher chance of success if you set small, incremental goals along the way. Psychological studies show that we’re more motivated when we accomplish small, realistic goals, so set both long- and short-term goals to keep yourself motivated as the year goes on.
Don’t Go It Alone
Did you know that you’re significantly more likely to stick with a weight loss or diet-related goal if you enlist the help of a friend? It all comes down to accountability. No matter how driven or motivated you may be, there will be days when it’s tempting to go home from the gym early, skip your workout altogether, or order fast food instead of cooking for yourself. Enlisting the help of a friend increases your likelihood of sticking to your goals, as you’ll be accountable not only to yourself, but a close friend as well.
If you’d like assistance with your weight loss goals, then consider speaking to one of our physicians about our weight loss programs for men!
Track Your Progress
Tracking your progress is a key component of your overall success. If you’re trying to lose weight this year, then make sure that you regularly weigh yourself, take pictures, and write down how much weight you’re able to lift in the gym. You’ll be able to see how you’re progressing over the long-term, and you’ll also be able to adjust your expectations as you become more fit. Struggling to find motivation before a workout? Look at where you started to find the inspiration you need to keep progressing!
