LEARN THE FACTS ABOUT TESTOSTERONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY
What is Testosterone Replacement Therapy?
Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone. It is produced mainly by the Leydig cells in the testes. Age-related decline in testosterone generally occurs by two mechanisms. The primary mechanism is a decrease in the number of Leydig cells.
A secondary cause of dysfunction is failure of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. Declines in testosterone levels are linear and continuous unlike the rapid fall in estrogen levels experience by menopausal females.
